Course on "Severe Accident Phenomenology"
This short Course is a sequel to the previous three SARNET SA Courses. The program covers SA phenomenology & progression in current water-cooled Gen. II Nuclear Power Plants (NPP), but also the different design solutions in new Gen. III designs addressing SA (i.e., the "in-vessel" melt retention concept or the "ex-vessel" core catcher concept).
The course has taken place in Pisa, Italy, January 10th-14th 2011.
ERMSAR 2010
4th European Review Meeting on Severe Accidents Research hosted by ENEA in Bologna (Italy) in May 2010. The presentations and full papers can be found on this page.
Joint workshop with OECD/AEN on corium coolability
A joint OECD-SARNET workshop on the issue of in-vessel coolability in severe accidents was held in October 2009 in Paris (hosted by OECD/NEA/CSNI). It included four technical sessions dealing with: (i) general safety studies especially probabilistic safety assessment (ii) recent, ongoing and planned experimental programmes (iii) developments in modelling (iv) safety studies for specific reactors. A final session allowed drawing conclusions and making recommendations. The workshop enjoyed the participation of 66 people originating from 16 different countries.
