The accidents in the Fukushima-Daiichi Japanese nuclear power plants have totally modified the landscape of nuclear energy worldwide. Many actions are under way to account for them in the safety defence in depth and their impact on R&D priorities must now be identified. This will be one of the 2012 objectives of the next tasks of the Severe Accident Research Priorities group (SARP) in SARNET. In parallel, two Japanese organizations, JNES and JAEA, have expressed their will to join SARNET and discussions will take place in the next months. Current discussions exist also on the SARNET future position with respect to the new Association NUGENIA, created in SNETP frame for R&D on Gen.II-III nuclear power plants.
